Listening: Tuning into the Uncomfortable

Here is a centuries old question: If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? And if nobody is there to listen to what we are saying - are we actually communicating?

In the words of Jane Goodall, “Change happens by listening and then starting a dialogue with the people who are doing something you don't believe is right.”

How long is your list of things you don’t agree with, want to change, or need to do something about?

How long is your list of people you actually listen to – deeply, intentionally, with your mind open to learning? When was the last time somebody gave you a gift of true listening?

There seems to be a lot of shouting lately, in one-on-one conversations and in public spaces, on Facebook and on Twitter, on college campuses and in workplaces. If we are all so busy talking who is listening?

Join me at the Winter Institute for Intercultural Communication in March of 2018 where I will be facilitating a 3-day workshop Listening: Tuning into the Uncomfortable.

Here is what you can expect:

  • Experiential learning about listening as an interpersonal and intercultural process

  • Practical skills for being an effective listener in emotionally charged situations

  • Variety of activities you can use to build better listening skills with individuals and teams
